HECAT is an assessment tool for examining school health education curricula. The HECAT can help school districts conduct a clear, complete, and consistent analysis of health education curricula based on the National Health Education Standards and CDC’s Characteristics of Effective Health Education Curricula. The HECAT results can help schools select or develop appropriate and effective health education curricula and improve the delivery of health education. The HECAT is customizable to meet local community needs and conform to the curriculum requirements of the state or school district.

An evaluation conducted to determine the degree to which tobacco use prevention education topics are addressed by Project ALERT. The evaluation is based on the operational definition of Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) curricula issued by the California Department of Education for tobacco surtax funds.
